Seeing as how Humans of New York has over nine million followers on Facebook, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard of the site. But in case you haven’t, I’m here to change that. HoNY started as a Facebook page of captioned photos of various characters found on the streets of New York. Now the photographer, Brandon, is on a world tour, photographing people of all ages in many different countries, but particularly countries facing some serious challenges. Every post is a gem. I have laughed and cried and stared at my computer in awe. Liking the HoNY Facebook page is a great way to add uplifting and relevant content to your news feed (and your life).
I took this photo at Benny’s Yard Art in Huntersville, NC. Benny’s was one of many fascinating places I visited as part of my internship with WTVI. Benny is totally self-taught and quite prolific. His words of advice to people with unfulfilled creative urges? Just start doing stuff, and if you “mess up” it doesn’t matter. Just make stuff.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of meeting my little dog Charlie, I am sorry. He is a daily source of laughter and cuddles (and sometimes frustration.) He’s really an expert at being a dog, though he enjoys forays into the human realm, like drinking from the bathtub faucet, scrutinizing our wardrobe to determine if a walk is imminent, and stealing your spot on the couch as soon as you get up.
